Phaeolus schweinitzii on larch.  Causes basal decay.  Serious worry amongst growers of timber.

Meripilus giganteus.  A serious root rotting fungus that attacks Beech trees.  Painshill Park, Cobham.  If this fungus appears, please fell the whole tree in sharp order.  It causes root decay.  I repeat it rots the roots.  It does not take long to rot them all away...

Honey Fungus.  A major player amongst tree killing fungi.  Cardiff.

Mowers and strimmers v. young trees.  Should be kept apart.  A good layer of mulch would be a good idea too!

Overdose of road salt - this can kill a tree, and will certainly affect its vigour.  Maybe try builders sand for pavement areas instead.

Kretzschmaria deusta.  This is a serious decay fungus of various tree species.  Often difficult to spot and identify.

Fistulina hepatica, the Beefsteak fungus.  Produces a valuable stain in Oak.  It is also rather tasty for breakfast if fresh. Alton.

Lack of maintenance... there is no excuse for this neglect.  But beware, do not do your duty and cut this tie... you could be prosecuted for criminal damage.  Someone was!  Is it not about time we dealt with the real vandals in society... those institutions, financial and legal who take from us what is not theirs?

Laetiporus sulphureus.  Chicken Of The Woods.  This fungus causes a brown cubicle rot in its host.  Can also be used as a substitute for chicken in vegetarian meals when fresh.  Near Farringdon, Alton.
